Property tax bill in the mail

Michelle Seeber

The Woodward County Treasurer’s Office will mail out 18,353 tax statements this week.

County Treasurer Wilma Blaylock said the statements will notify personal property and real estate owners of any ad valorem taxes that they owe this year.

Approximately $15.3 million in taxes will be paid this year, she said, noting “this is an increase of approximately $1.9 million over last year of $13.4 million.”

“Most of the money goes to the schools,” Blaylock said.

The taxes are due by Dec. 31, she said.

“As of Jan. 1, 2010, they will be overdue, and a 1.5 percent interest penalty will be assessed the first of every month until the full amount is paid,” she said. “If it’s $25 or less the full amount is due by Dec. 31.”

However, if you are eligible and elect to pay half by Dec. 31, then you have until March 2010, to pay the second half before an interest fee is charged, she said.

Payments can be either sent in by mail or paid in person at the courthouse.

If anyone does not receive their tax bill soon or has any questions about their property tax statement, contact the Woodward County Treasurer’s Office at (580) 256-7404.
