Area schools plan Veterans Day programs

Schools throughout the area will hold various assemblies next Wednesday to celebrate Veterans Day, honoring the men and who served in the nation’s armed forces.

Here is an overview of the Veterans Day events.

Mooreland - An assembly is planned at 9 a.m. in the high school auditorium. During the program a slide show will be presented and the choir will perform. All veterans in attendance will be recognized.

High School Principal Ron Wilson said retired Army Col. Gary Collier will be the keynote speaker during the assembly.

Fargo - The program will be at 1:30 p.m. in the school gym. Students in the music program will perform patriotic songs and the band club members will recite readings and poems. Veterans in attendance will be honored and recognized.

Fort Supply - The program starts at 10 a.m. in the old gym and will individually honor veterans in attendance. Highlights include a musical program by the elementary students and a patriotic speech by the high school speech class.

Program director Betty Sue Eilers said there will be a special presentation to the family of a local veteran who was killed in Vietnam.

Buffalo - The program begins at 10 a.m. and involves all students in school. Veterans in attendance will be honored with singing, including a song to honor each branch of the military.

A memorial wreath will honor veterans who died in the past year.

Vici - An assembly is planned in the high school auditorium at 10 a.m. The program will be a joint effort between elementary and high school students. After the program veterans are invited to stay for a brunch at the school.

Laverne- Activities start at 10 a.m. in the school auditorium. Veterans will be honored with patriotic songs and the pre-kindergarten students will sing “God Bless America.”

After the program veterans are invited to eat lunch at the school.

Shattuck held its progeram on Thursday night, featuring music by junior high and high school chorus students. In addition, those in attendance heard from Marine Pvt. Cody Waite of Arnett and featured speaker Dr. James Vineyard, a pastor and the superintendent of Windsor Hills School.
